Art Reactions: A Christmas Dream

Last Christmas, this young woman, Emery, was surprised with the sweetest gift of art from her mother. ❤️

Unbeknownst to me, Emery had been saving up for months to buy my work “Alpine Dreams.” She had told her mom many times about the painting she was excited to one day purchase. Little did she know, her mom had decided to surprise her daughter by purchasing her dream painting for her.

But she ran into a problem: the mother had no idea who the artist was. The only picture she had of the painting was a screenshot of me and my pup, Zorro, with the painting, taken from Instagram. In the screenshot, my name and username was cropped out so only the picture was visible.

The only picture her mother had of the painting, “Alpine Dreams.”

Not wanting to spoil the surprise, her mom decided to figure out who the artist was (and how to buy the painting) without asking her daughter. So she went absolutely above and beyond…

Her mom started texting everyone they knew, asking them if they recognized the artist in the picture. Soon a chain of group texts, spanning from Chicago to Raleigh was formed, and all of their family friends joined in on the hunt for the artist of “Alpine Dreams.”

Finally, after much sleuthing (and many incorrect Instagram follows), one of their friends of a friend recognized me.

So on Christmas morning, Emery woke up to the news that her mom had purchased for her the painting she had been dreaming about, and I woke up to my biggest art sale yet.

The memory of it still gives me chills and reminds me of the magic of family, friends, art, and love. I can’t wait to hear all about this year’s beautiful art surprises.

Thank you for going above and beyond for your loved ones, and thank you for supporting this young artist’s dream to bring joy and beauty to others.
