Stand with Breonna Taylor
Art is a form of prayer.
Painting this portrait of Breonna Taylor this June was my silent prayer. I didn’t originally intend to share this portrait, and honestly, I’m still conflicted about what right I have, as a middle class white woman, to portray any aspect of Black experience, Black pain, Black trauma, Black joy.
But if this tumultuous time has taught us anything, it’s that - as beautiful and comforting as prayer is - it must be followed up with action to create any real change.
No matter how many times Breonna Taylor's portrait is painted, no matter how many times her name is said, it will not be enough if she is still denied the one thing she deserves most of all. All the art and prayers in the world cannot give her the justice she deserves.
The world feels heavy this week with the weight of that injustice.
So we’re left to find our own ways to continue the fight for equality in her name.
As an act of love and support to those on the frontlines of this fight, I'm once again offering free 5" X 4" magnets in exchange for donations to Black Lives Matter-related organizations, this time featuring this portrait of Breonna Taylor.
Here’s how to get your free magnet:
1. Donate any amount to a Black Lives Matter related organization.
Here are just a few worthy organizations recommended by the Antiracism Fund: The Bail Project, The Black Aids Institute, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, The Equal Justice Initiative, Transgender, Gender Variant, and Intersex Justice Project
2. Message me with proof of your donation and give me your shipping address
3.. That’s it! Thank you for contributing to the cause. And thank you to all of the beautiful souls who participated in the last donation initiative for Black Lives Matter-related organizations. Keep spreading your light.
In the meantime, please ask yourselves how you can do better, how you can be better. I’ll be doing the same.
