A Thousand Words: Margo's Story

A picture’s worth a thousand words, or so the old adage goes. While a work of art may speak for itself, sometimes a few words can provide greater context, texture, and depth to a piece.

In my new blog series, A Thousand Words, I’ll dive deeper into the meaning and story behind the paintings, starting with this lovely portrait of mother and daughter.

A young woman, Margo, commissioned this sentimental piece for her mother (the woman on the right in the painting). Here is Margo’s beautiful story, in her own words, (shared with permission):

“Nine years ago, my mother came out as gay. At first, my Nanny didn’t take it very well, but she still cared so much for my mom. Right before my Nanny was diagnosed with ALS, she had a change of heart and came around. No matter what changes my mother made in her life, my Nanny always found a way to love and support her.

Sadly, my Nanny passed away six years ago this September, so she couldn’t be there for my mom’s wedding day. Regardless, we know she was there in spirit.”

With that in mind, the young woman commissioned this painting of her mother and grandmother on her mom’s wedding day. That way, her grandmother could truly be a part of her daughter’s beautiful day, if only in a painting and in their hearts 💕🌈
