Virginia Fall Foliage Art Show 2022 | Waynesboro, VA
Of all the weekends in the year, I cannot imagine a more perfect one to be in the Shenandoah Valley than last weekend at the Virginia Fall Foliage Art Show.
The weather was that glorious mix of bright, sunny blue skies with a slight autumn chill. Over the course of the weekend, we watched the leaves color in real time: from their bright summer greens to rich autumnal golds and reds. The mountains were dotted in various shades of red, gold, yellow, and green, and when the sun began to set, the entire valley was awash in rich amber light. It was everything that makes Fall in the mountains absolutely magic.
Within that sublime setting we set up for the Virginia Fall Foliage Art Show. With perfect fall weather and fine art to tempt them, the people of Waynesboro and the surrounding areas came out en mass. We were delighted to share this weekend with so many kind, art-loving people.
This weekend, two of my favorite landscapes found their homes: the fresh, new painting “Dogwood Dreams” and the piece “Butterfly Blossom,” which happens to don the champagne bottles of Shanti Elixirs’ Spring Jun Champagne. We were also excited to see that a record-breaking number of framed prints found their dream homes here in the mountains. If you’re one of those people, consider sending us a picture of your work installed for a chance to be featured on our next In Situ blog! We would love to see your work shining in its new home.
Making all of the little connections with people at these art fairs, be it fellow artists or art lovers, is my favorite part of art fairs. I’ve loved chatting with every one of you. Please know that your kind, encouraging words make my day! It was especially heartwarming to see how many kids were out and about, taking in and learning all about art. These two sweet girls even awarded me their “Best in Show” ribbons, and honestly, I couldn’t be more flattered.
Another thing that I love about traveling for art fairs is the incredible places I get to see that I might not have visited otherwise. Not only did my husband and I get a chance to do some fall camping under the full October moon, but after this weekend’s show, we stopped at Natural Bridge State Park on the way back home. Thomas Jefferson once called this natural bridge “the most sublime of nature’s works,” and I can certainly see why. This view of the Natural Bridge in Fall is what reference photo dreams are made of.
This weekend will live in my memory as the epitome of Fall in the mountains: crisp weather, beautiful colors, warm people, fine art, and sublime nature. What more could I ever ask for?
